Dear Ladies and Gentleman,
Despite enormous differences between the economic situation in USA and Spain, it is interesting to note that my analysis and the publication of Property and Casualty agree on the fact that insurance companies are subject to great pressure on prices, that need to be more innovative and that the “Usage Based Insurance” policies will be a key element in future market shares.
It is a bit shocking to note that while in U.S. several related to environment organizations are showing strong support to this project, in Europe there is little sensitivity in this regard. This type of insurance encourages a more ecological use of the vehicle while that its implantation in a significant market share is quite simple. These are the reasons why the U.S. Department of Transportation, in a lengthy document, encourages states to take active steps in its promotion. Todd Litman has summarized beautifully this documentation.
In France, the PAYD projects are being developing very well, both young and low-risk vehicles, company vehicles or motorcycles.
And in U.S.A., the expectations of the technology companies, see Trafficmaster comments, Imetrik or Milekeeper activities, and of the insurance companies are excellent.
Mr. Harbage opens an exciting discussion about the modification of behaviours associated with risk.
As you remember, the Government of the Netherlands received three clear messages to its population. The first is that a Road Charge is admissible, the second is that the public felt should not be penalized for making use of infrastructure at peak times as they understand it’s a problem of social organization and that is the responsibility of the government to fix it, and the third is by no means considered acceptable that you can track the information of where and when you use the vehicle. It is assumed that all governments and companies with interest in working in this market will have taken good note of these results and will be reconsidering the approach to their projects.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has published a magnificent study on industrial vehicle safety while Washington Post examines the latest statistics on accidents in young drivers.
If somebody wants thar their address is erased of my distribution list, please return me this message with the word “DELETE”.
As always, I have upgraded my “Pay As You Drive Directory” and my News Bulletin.
Yours sincerely.
